28. Week Away

I'm sorry guys, this update is horrible... I just wanted to get it up so that I could move on to some better ones lol.

Walking Away - Kina Grannis

Evan sat alone on the bed, perched on the end, nothing but a single sheet wrapped around her naked form. She stared out the window, as the wind whipped through the downtown streets of Pittsburgh. She felt as lost and used as the garbage that whirled around the pavement and concrete, swept uselessly aside by the blustery weather.

No, perhaps ’used’ was too strong of a word. No one had used her, just made a fool of her, and broke her heart.

She hated the way she felt now, what was she supposed to do? She loved Alex, she did, but she wasn’t ready for this. It probably made no sense to other people, but it did to her.
Even though she’d already had a relationship with Alex, and knew how wonderful and perfect he was, she still wasn’t ready.
She needed to retreat into seclusion, nurse her wounds, and find her feet again. She needed to do all that on her own though.

Evan wanted Alex, that much was obvious, but she couldn’t keep letting him wait for her. She had to take the big steps and learn to stand again on her own, then and only then, could she come back for him. But this… all of this had to wait, she was just too hurt and exhausted to truly figure anything out.

It wasn’t that she thought Alex would break her, or hurt her like Jeff; at least, she was pretty sure he wouldn’t. She hated that, having any doubts where Alex was concerned, but she supposed that was what betrayal did to someone. You always expected the worst from people, even the ones that didn’t deserve your suspicion.

As if on cue, the door opened behind her, and Evan looked back to see Alex standing in the opening, a wooden tray of food in his hands. “Breakfast?” He grinned sheepishly, motioning towards the steaming plate of food with his head.
Evan smiled back at him, watching as he moved towards her, sitting down on the bed and staring at her intently. “Hungry at all? I mean… it’s probably not that good but…” He shrugged, clicking his tongue against the top of his mouth as he looked away, awkwardly.

“Don’t say that… you’re a better cook than I’ll ever be. And I’ll eat it in a minute but… I… I think we need to talk first.” She said quietly, watching Alex as he set the tray on the floor, before looking up at her.
He nodded and pulled out the folded paper that he’d been holding under the tray. “What’s that?” She asked, and he held it out, showing her the collage of pictures on the front of it.

“I was doing some thinking and… I realized that you’re not going to stay.” Alex said simply, shrugging his shoulders like the idea didn’t bother him. “I mean, if I sat here and begged you, you probably would but…
I guess I just know you too well. I was thinking about it a lot and, I can’t imagine what you’re going through right now.”
Alex reached out, tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear before continuing. “I love you… I always have, that’s not going to chance because you need to figure things out...” He bent forward, setting the tray on the floor and sitting back up, taking her hand in his.
“Just come back to me when you do.”

Evan shook her head, biting her lip as she stared at him lovingly. “I’m so sorry… you don’t deserve this.”

“Just tell me that you love me and that you’ll let me help you, if you need it.”

She reached out with her free hand, dragging her hand along his bare chest. “I love you.”
Ducking his head down, he brushed his lips against hers, intensifying the kiss until he was crawling on top of her.
She moved with him, allowing herself to fall back against the bed as he shifted his body above hers.

It wasn’t until Evan’s legs, still twisted in the sheet, began to wrap around his back, that he pulled away, still smiling at her. “Sorry… got a little carried away… you should eat though.” He said, reaching out and pulling Evan back up into a sitting position. “Oh, and this!” He exclaimed, grabbing the paper back up and handing it to her.

It was a realtor listing of the area, houses, apartments and lofts for sale in the nearby area. She glanced at the paper closer, and saw a few penciled circles around some of the places.
“Kicking me out?” She quipped, her eyes never straying from the black and white images in front of her.
Alex didn’t bother responding, instead, he dropped his arm around her shoulder and tried to be positive.

“We can go look whenever you want but… I’d really like it if you stayed in Pittsburgh.” He said quietly, looking slightly guilty as he did so.
He didn’t want to force her into anything, but at the same time, he knew he needed her close.

“No, that sounds good to me…” She agreed, resting her head on his shoulder as she let out a soft sigh.

Even though she’d just gotten up, Evan was exhausted. She gave Alex a quick kiss on the cheek before crawling to the top of the bed and pulling the sheets up around her. Shaking his head, Alex crawled after her; any ambitions of attending the optional practice, forgotten.
He pulled back the covers and joined her, flipping them back up until they were completely submerged in the blue sheets.
Alex pushed his arms out in front of him, creating a make shift tent as he glanced over at her. “Nice tent.” She yawned, covering her mouth with the back of her hand.

“S’not a tent…” Alex mumbled into the thick, warm, air that clung around them. “I built you a castle… you can just live here, and be queen.” He quipped, glancing over at her.
Her eyes were closed, but she smiled in spit of herself.

“No one wants to be a queen… they’re old and ugly. I’m a princess.” She explained, her voice becoming subdued as she began to drift into unconsciousness.

Alex grinned to himself, scooting closer to her as her breathing became steady. He hadn’t been that tired, but wrapped in this warm cocoon with her, was having a hypnotic effect on him.
He lowered his arm, draping it over her sleeping form as the blanket gently dropped down around them.

Alex tried to remain positive and keep himself optimistic, as far as their relationship was concerned.
For some reason though, it wasn’t that difficult. Maybe he just knew what it was like to feel like you had lost everything, or maybe he was just extremely in tune to what Evan needed the most. Either way, Alex could completely understand why she had to figure things out herself.
She’d just been hurt by someone she’d trusted and tried to be with. If she went right into another relationship and something happened, where would she be? How do you still stand after being battered twice with no recovery time?

He, of course, knew that he’d never do anything to hurt her, but that didn’t change anything.
He just kept smiling, knowing that whatever happened, she’d never be back with Jeff… and she knew now, knew for sure, that Alex loved her more than anything.
All that was left to do now, was let her walk away.

Part of him was hoping that he wouldn’t have to wait too long, but the other half of him tried not to think of it.
He knew Evan well enough to tell when she was hurting, but even he couldn’t conceptualize just how betrayed and let-down she probably felt.
He closed his eyes and nestled his face into the top of her head, pulling her close against him.

Just To Be The Next - Mr. Big

The guys left Tuesday for their Canadian road trip, leaving Evan to look after the house, and take over the role of Chubby’s caretaker.
Normally Alex left her with the elderly lady across the street, but he was at least glad that Evan wouldn’t be totally alone now.

The guys, for the most part, weren’t stupid. They could put two and two together, and assumed that given Evan’s ‘episode’ in the locker-room, and the fact that she was now living with Alex, Max and Jordan; it was a good indication of her relationship status with Jeff.
Something that the guys felt the need to talk about, the whole trip.

“So when do we play the Flyers next cause… that’s gonna be awesome!” TK exclaimed from the back of the plane.

“Agreed.” Someone added, causing Alex to roll his eyes as he pretended that that game meant nothing more to him, than anyone else. “Crosby, when do we play them?” The same voice yelled, and Alex finally turned around to see Cookie peering into the aisle, his eyes focused on the back of Sidney’s head.

“Umm… we get back on Sunday, and we play them two days after, so Tuesday.” He explained, his eyes zoning out as he mentally tried to picture the season’s schedule.

“Hear that Alex, next Tuesday you get to punch Carter in the face.” Rupp said smugly, turning around in his seat to glance at Alex.
Alex sighed and looked out the window, hoping they’d eventually get bored and leave him alone.

Max cleared his throat from beside Alex. “Maybe we should call Evan up, non? I mean… she can throw a punch. You... not so much.”
The boys began to laugh at that statement, causing Alex to blush in annoyance and embarrassment.

“It’s true though, Evan’s a lot wilder than you… bet she’s all about the ‘Gogo domination’.” Billy G added from somewhere behind Alex.

Kris let out an exasperated sigh, tilting his head back. “Guys come on. Back off and leave him alone… he doesn’t want to talk about personal shit with you idiots.”

Alex looked across the aisle at Kris and gave him a thankful grin, which Kris returned. “Oh! Have we touched a tender topic Mr. Letang?” Cookie quipped, nudging TK. “I think Piglet’s getting uncomfortable.”

“Ha! Our two little S&M boys.” Rupper started to laugh, slapping the arm rest with his large, calloused hand. “I just thought… it’s like we have two piglets… like Toot and Puddle, get it?”

“Toot and Puddle? What the fuck are you talk about, Rupper?” TK asked, staring at him with confusion clouding his face.

Rupper shrugged at him incredulity. “Toot and Puddle those two fucking pigs that travel all over the place… it’s a kid’s show…” He added when no one said anything. “I watch it with Mason all the time!” Rupper continued, defensively as everyone started to laugh at him.

Alex turned back around as the guys began to laugh harder at Rupper’s backtracking attempts. He felt pretty confident that they’d leave him alone, at least for a while.
Although, without having to listen to them babble at him or make choice comments, all he was left with were his thoughts - and that wasn’t exactly a positive thing.

He couldn’t really talk about it with the guys, they just wouldn’t understand, hell… he didn’t really understand.
It was almost implausible to think that he could have been waiting so long for this moment, and he was completely ready to let her go. It wasn’t even that he didn’t have a choice, it was that fact that he knew, it was the right thing to do.

At times, he wished that his ideas of right and wrong weren’t so black and white, then maybe he could ignore his gut, and just try and make her stay. Of course, that would go against everything he stood for.
He wanted Evan, needed to be the next one to be with her, but that wasn’t all he wanted.
He also wanted to be the last man to ever be with her. The one that she could count on and turn to, believe in and trust. After everything she'd been through, Alex knew that that was going to take some time, luckily for him, he was a patient person.

Evan waited by the front window. She didn’t want to seem needy or creepy, but she was desperate to be around people again. No, desperate to be around Alex.

She hadn’t gone to work all week. Not wanting to drive the car that Jeff had bought for her, she’d been stuck in Pittsburgh the whole time the guys had been gone.
Of course, since Jordan, Max and Alex had all gone in Jordan’s SUV to the arena to catch the bus, Max’s and Alex’s vehicles were still in the driveway.
She wasn’t about to drive either one of them though, she was already bumming enough as it was.

She had basically lived the past two years of her life, completely dependent on Jeff. She’d allowed him to pay all the bills, buy everything for her and dictate her life.
She’d moved to a new state for him, given up school for him, all she had was her job, and she wasn’t even attending that at the moment.
And what if she had have done everything Jeff wanted? She wouldn’t even have her shitty, dead-end job.

Now, she was stuck living off Alex’s money. He didn’t have a problem with it, calling every night to make sure she still had the credit card he’d left for her, and that everything was ok. In truth she hadn’t touched the thing; the black and gold Penguins Visa still sat on the kitchen counter.

She couldn’t believe that everything had come to this. As she stood in the reflection of the setting sun, she felt like it wasn’t just disappearing behind the tall buildings, but out of her life completely.
She’d become a parasite, leeching off of Alex both literally and metaphorically.

Evan, in her own mind, now felt like she was no better than the puck bunnies, jersey chasers and rink whores, she’d dealt with in high school and university.
She was broken. Plain and simple. She’d managed to become everything that she despised and hated in a matter of months.

She didn’t deserve Alex. This week alone had given her the time to see that. She wanted him, she loved him, and she knew he loved her… but that’s what made the whole thing so wrong.
Alex deserved someone who was whole and perfect. Someone that could give everything they had to him and never put him through anything bad.
She’d already managed to break his heart, several times - she was sure - and she didn’t want to do it anymore.

This time would be different though, she’d back off and give him space. Start her life over and hope that’d he’d eventually move on.
This time when she left, she wouldn’t be coming back.

27. “I Will”

Sorry guys, this one still feels choppy and stuff… it’s longer than usual but, meh… also once again, no proofing...

Lay Low - Tim Chaisson( I went to high school with this guy! haha)

Evan and Alex both stood, open-mouthed, as they looked around the packed locker-room.
Evan hadn’t meant for that to happen, not at all. She just needed him; to see him, talk to him, be around him. But that had all changed as soon as she actually saw him.
In her rush to get Alex undressed and inside of her, Evan had completely forgotten about the fact that people could probably hear them. Of course Alex hadn’t forgotten that, but, he also didn’t truly care.
Sure, now he’d never hear the end of it, but there were much worse things they could be saying to him. He’d heard it all.

Alex grabbed onto Evan’s arm, and pulled her behind him, trying to shield her with his body as he slid, sideways, towards his stall. He changed as fast as possible, all thoughts of a shower forgotten as he pulled on his street clothing.
Once he was dressed her turned back around to find Evan, covering her face, as the guys continued to stare at him, smirking. “Well… ah… we’ll just be… bye!” He yelled, gently shoving Evan out the door and taking off after her.

They were both laughing hysterically by the time they reached the back parking lot. Coming to a stop by Alex’s SUV, he turned around to take her hands in his.
He smiled down at her, happy tears leaking out of the corner of her eyes and he reached up slowly, wiping them away with the pads of his thumbs.
They were both, also, red in the face; more from physical exertion than actual embarrassment. Evan had too much on her mind to fully pay attention to her voyeurism, and Alex was still trying to figure out what had actually just occurred. “So…?” He grinned, shrugging. “I’m not really gonna complain but… what was this all about?”

“I left Jeff.” She said quickly, waiting for a reaction. Alex stared at her hard, searching for an explanation, so she began to back track. “Well, what I mean is… I came back early, and he was with her. In our house.”

That was all she had to say. As curious as Alex was to find out the details of Jeff’s complete, moronic, fuck-up, he didn’t need to hear anymore. “Evan… I’m so sorry.”

She waved away his concern. “Don’t. It’s not your fault… he’s just an idiot and well… apparently I’m an idiot too.” She said, giving him a sad grin.

“You’re not an idiot. Having faith and giving someone another chance, doesn’t make you an idiot… it makes him a retard.” Alex let go of her face, a took a step back. “So what now?”

Alex tried to sound casual, like he was only asking about the current situation and not the future, their future. If Evan noticed at all, she didn’t say anything. “I don’t know I mean… what do you do?” She asked absently, not truly expecting Alex to have an answer for her.

“Do you have clothing or anything? I mean… should we go pick up some of your stuff or…?”

She shook her head quickly. “No, god, I just got here… I don’t want to drive all the way back. Jeff has a game on Monday so… we could just go then, if you don’t mind?” Evan hated asking like that, imposing on Alex that he was supposed to come. It wasn’t that he had to come, it was just that she really, really needed him there.

“Of course not, let’s go grab some food and then we’ll head back to my place, alright?” Evan nodded and allowed Alex to open the car door for her. He closed it after she crawled into the vehicle and walked around to his side, trying to keep the smile off his face.
Of course he knew that she was hurting much more than she was showing, and that it would all come out later. But, if there was one thing that both Evan and Alex knew, it was that there would be no third chances for Jeff.

“I’m not taking your bed, Alex! I’ll sleep on the couch or just stay in the spare-room if no one’s there tonight.” Evan said forcefully as she followed Alex into his house after lunch and stopping to pick up a few female essentials. “Hey Max…” She added sheepishly as she caught sight of the French-man sitting on the couch.

Max grinned in spite of himself and nodded at them. “Bonjour, mon petite sex kitten…”

“Ugh, nice Max… and this place is a mess! Have you been sitting here all day, doing nothing?” Alex scolded, trying to move the conversation away from the morning’s activities.

Max rolled his eyes and pointed at the TV enthusiastically. “I’m not ‘doing nothing‘, I’m watching cars smash into each other… it’s awesome!” He explained as the monster car derby continued on the screen.
Shrugging his shoulders, Alex ushered Evan upstairs.

Once his bedroom door was closed behind him, Alex turned around and watched Evan as she flopped down onto his bed. “You ok?” He asked after a while. She laid back, stretching her arms above her head and let out a deep sigh. “Evan?” He moved towards her, crawling onto the bed and laying down on his side.

“I’m ok… it’s just like… I’m sorry.” She said finally, fighting to find the words as they came out.

Alex paused, crinkling his brow as he contemplated her words. “Why are you sorry? Wait like… are you apologising to me?” He reached a hand out to her, and rolled her onto her side, until she was facing him. “Why?”

“For everything… the fact that I keep pushing shit on you and being selfish. I mean, this morning, I wasn’t even thinking about what you need… or if you had plans after practice…
I just keep showing up in your life and it’s not fair.” She exhaled loudly and began to blink quickly, trying to keep the tears back. “You’re a better friend than I’ve ever deserved.”

Alex took a deep breath, allowing the small grin to play on his lips. “You’re way too hard on yourself… and besides, there’s never a time that I don’t want to see you… especially if that means that I don’t have to hang out with Carter anymore.” He chuckled, watching her reaction. She gave him a sad smile and reached out, tracing his face with her fingers. “You wanna go out or something tonight?” He asked, clearing his throat as he tried to ignore how fantastic her hands felt against his skin.

“We could just stay in… if you want…”

Alex could hear the guys coming in, and he turned his head to find the clock in the dark. It was almost four AM on Monday morning, and Alex knew that they’d be passing out soon; the sound of them falling up the stairs only confirming the point further.
He exhaled lightly and turned back over, his arm, rewinding itself around Evan as she slept soundly beside him. He nuzzled his face into the back of her hair and took a deep breath, feeling her shift slightly in her sleep. This was the second night he’d spent beside her like this, and he was in complete bliss.

He also knew that it might not last though, and only tomorrow would show what was going to happen.
There was just something about the idea of driving Evan back into Philly, that was enough to turn his stomach.

Call It Off - Tegan and Sara

“Do you need me to go in… or… do you wanna go in alone?” Alex asked, skeptically, as he pulled into the drive way of Jeff Carter’s home.

“No, I think I can go in alone… I’ll be back in a few minutes.” She said quietly, pushing the door open and swinging her legs out. She turned around and glanced at Alex as she climbed the stairs onto the porch, he gave her a small wave.

Taking a deep breath she turned back around and put her key into the lock, before pushing it open.
It opened loudly, creaking for the first time, ironically enough. She winced as it opened, hoping that no one was home, and that no one heard that.

She waited a few minutes until she was sure she was alone, before taking a step in, and then another.
Losing her nerve completely, she bolted for the stairs, taking them two at a time. She rounded the corner quickly and threw open the bedroom door.
The room was in disarray, clothing scattered everywhere and the bed was unmade, the sheets hanging out of one side; like Jeff had just rolled out and left.

Evan didn’t stop to think too much about it, just grabbing her luggage case out of the closet and piling in her clothing. She ran into the bathroom and swiped her make-up, shampoo and toothbrush off the counter before tossing those into the bag as well. She dropped down to her knees and forced the bulging zipper shut, standing up again and tugging the bag up with her. “Evangeline?” Came the question behind her, freezing her in her tracks.

She felt Jeff move behind her, until he was so close she could feel his breath on her. She gulped, turning slowly until they were face to face. She opened her mouth to speak, but words failed her as she stared up at him.
He looked confused, lost, but he didn’t look depressed. He didn’t look upset or angry or hurt… no, of course not, she realized. Why would he?

He was her problem, not the other way around. There was nothing wrong with her, he was the fucked up one. The way he stood there, staring at her expectantly, like everything that had happened had been her fault.

She didn’t bother saying anything, lifting her bag off the ground to move past him, but he stopped her with an arm. “What’s that? What are you doing?”

“I’m leaving you Jeff.” She hissed, slapping his hand away from her and heading towards the bedroom door.
He followed her, grabbing onto her bag and yanking, hard. She snapped backwards, almost losing her balance as she struggled to stay on her feet. “Let go!” She yelled, her eyes zeroing in on him.

“We both know you’ll just end up back here, so why the fuck do you have to be so dramatic?” He asked, chuckling slightly as he watched her face flush.

“I’m not coming back… not ever again. You had your second chance, and you lost it… so fuck you. And let go!” She said again, yanking on the bag. She managed to get it free, as he stood there, stunned by the fact that she’d just cursed directly at him.

She took off down the hall, the heavy bag slamming back and forth between her thigh and the wall, causing an uncomfortable pain in her muscle as she descended the stairs.
Jeff caught up with her again, finally realizing that this could possibly be the end of his relationship. “Evangeline!” He said, grabbing onto her shoulder and spinning her around again. “Babylove… come on! I don’t love her… I swear to god, she doesn’t mean anything to me.” He pressed, not letting go of her. “Not a god damn thing cupcake… come on…”

Evan let out a sharp laugh, trying to free her arm from his firm grasp. She could feel his fingers digging into her skin, and it hurt, bad. “I know Jeff, I believe you… I don’t think that you have the ability to love anyone… you’re too damn busy loving yourself.” She snapped, tugging on her arm once more.

She pulled again and Jeff let go, sending her falling backwards down the stairs. She frantically reached out for the railing but missed, cringing as she waited for the hard stairs to connect with her back.
But it never came.

She felt herself hit against something hard, but not as hard as the wood floor. She opened her eyes and glanced down, watching Alex’s strong arms wrap around her midsection and pull her down onto the landing. “Are you ok?” He asked her quietly, his voice hard as he cupped her cheek in his hand.
She nodded and he finally moved away from her, taking a few steps up the stairs to where Jeff was standing.

For a few minutes, all three of them thought that Alex was going to punch Jeff in the face, but he didn’t. He stared at him hard, before bending down to pick up Evan’s suitcase with a big hand.
He turned back around and walked down the last few steps, back to her. “You have a lot of fucking nerve coming into my house.” Jeff said, his courage back up, once he was sure Alex wasn’t going to strike him.

Alex stopped, nodding for Evan to head to the door, before he looked back at Jeff. “You wanna do something about?” Alex asked, holding his hands out to the side, suitcase still clutched in his right hand. “Cause if you’re ready to man up, and step up to me… come on down… I’ve been waiting for this for a long, long time.” Alex tried to keep the smile off his face, but he was unable to. It wasn’t a lie when he said he’d been thinking about this day for a long time.
The feels of resentment he’d felt towards Jeff from the very beginning, were now mingled with the strongest hate, something he’d never felt towards anyone before.
He wanted to rip Jeff apart, he wanted to extract payment in blood, for all the awful, stupid, selfish things that he’d ever done to Evan. But like always, she was the first thing in his mind.

Instead of pressing Jeff further, Alex turned and left him cowering on the stairs, moving swiftly towards Evan. He wrapped his free arm around her shoulders and led her out of the house, towards the safety of his SUV.

She went without a fight, allowing Alex to help her in, before he threw her things into the back.
They drove back out to the highway, Evan glancing down at her hand, before reaching down for her ring and tugging it off.
She was surprised to find that she not only still had it, but that she was still wearing it.
Force of habit, she supposed. With everything else that had been going on, it seemed so unimportant and insignificant, but she still needed it off.

Rolling down her window, she felt Alex’s eyes on her as she tossed her ring out into a random parking lot. She watched it arch in the sky, twinkling as it spiralled back down towards the earth.
She lost sight of it once it passed beyond some park cars, hopefully rolling into a deep, dark, sewer.
Alex turned his eyes back to the road and tried to leave Evan in silence. He didn’t want to pressure her to talk, especially not since he wasn’t totally cooled off yet.
Alex was the type of guy to stick up for friends, and close the deal… on the ice. He wasn’t used to major confrontations in person, let alone ones that played such emotional turmoil on him.

Evan, on the other hand, was remembering the exact moment from a different point of view.
She was caught somewhere in between the shock of Jeff just dropping her like that, and surprise at Alex’s vehement defence of her. If anyone knew Alex well, really well, it was her, but even she had been surprised at his level of passion.

Something like that would probably make another girl happy, but Evan just felt even more guilt where Alex was concerned. It wasn’t even his battle, and yet here he was, fighting for her. He’d never asked to be put in this situation, but she kept doing it to him, he was just too good of a person to tell her to back off and allow him to live his own life.
Hell, he hadn’t even had a girlfriend since they’d broken up. Sure, he’d had a few random hook-ups on the road and gone on a few dates with Amelia, but in reality, he’d never tried to be with anyone else.
Evan knew that it was her fault, she assumed he was too busy looking after her to find love for himself. What she didn’t know, was that even if Alex wasn’t always being her confidant and watching out for her, he’d still be single.
It wasn’t that Evan took up too much of his time, cause really, he could never get enough of her. It was simply the fact that he had no reason to move on.
People moved on when they had somewhere else to go, someone else to be with, or desired a different life. Alex wasn’t stuck in the past, or in some foolish dream, he knew exactly what he wanted, he just couldn’t have it.

He had never given up on her before, and he definitely wasn’t about to start now.

She Will Be Loved - Maroon5

Alex had sent a text to Max and Jordan before they got home, asking them to head out for a bit that night. The last thing he wanted was for Evan to feel like she had to put on a front once they were home, she needed to break down.
He could see the emotions and confusing building inside of her, it was getting to the breaking point, and that just wasn’t healthy.

When Alex pulled into his own driveway that night, it was down pouring. He glanced over at Evan before moving to open his door. “How about I run in and grab an umbrella or something?” He asked, reaching in the backseat to pull her bag towards him.
She shook her head, giving him a weak smile before opening her own door and hopping out into the rain.
Alex jumped out too, quickly following after her. It wasn’t that far of a run, but it was still a wasted effort; both of them were soaked by the time they got into the house.

Evan stood slightly slumped, her hands out in front of her as she glanced down at her clothing, the way that they clung to her tightly with wetness. Alex couldn’t help but laugh as they stood there, a giant puddle forming in front of the door. “It’s a good thing you finally got some more clothes…” He grinned, reaching over his head to pull off his shirt.

“What are you doing?” Evan asked as Alex held his saturated, shirt in his hands.

“Umm… trying to keep the water from getting on the carpet. I’ll go grab you a towel after I throw these in the dryer.” He said nonchalantly as he undid his jeans and took them up in his hand.
He was so wet that even his boxers were uncomfortable, but he didn’t exactly want to get naked in front of Evan, especially not after she’d just left her fiancé for good. Ex-fiancé, the idea made Alex smile.

He got into the laundry room and threw his clothing into the dryer, slamming the door shut and turning it on.
He spun around and headed for the upstairs, but was stopped by Evan. She was standing in a light blue bra and grey panties, her wet clothing held out in front of her. “I umm… thought I’d save you the walk.”

Alex nodded, taking the pile of clothing from her and putting it in the dryer too, trying to ignore the way her skin goose bumped from the cold, and the way her hardened nipples were starting to show through the cotton fabric… He lost himself though, not realizing that she had caught him until she blushed deeply and looked away, wrapping her arms around her middle.

Clearing his throat, Alex averted his eyes, suddenly fascinated by the deep green wall colour that was surrounding them. “If you want to take a shower or something, you can hop in it first…” He said, finally turning back to look at her, only to find tears in her eyes. “Evan… are you ok?” Alex asked, coming towards her and lifting her face.
She shook her head, swatting his hand away.

“I’m fine.” She said, trying to hold back a sob as Alex stared at her. Alex rolled her eyes and put his hands back on her face, looking at her questioningly.

“Evan…”

She stomped her foot slightly, angry at herself for allowing her emotions to get the better of her again. Of course she was going to have a melt down, but she had no right to do it in front of Alex, not again. “I said I’m fine.” Snorting, Alex shook his head, not planning on giving up.“You know, you’re extremely annoying when you’re probing. Shouldn‘t you be getting dressed?” She snapped, her feelings finally boiling over and flying into the only other animate thing in the room.

“And you’re extremely obvious when you’re deflecting.” Alex replied, not missing a beat. He smiled to himself slightly, as she shifted uncomfortably.

Evan shrugged, defeated as she moved over towards the warmth that was coming from the dryer. “I just…” She sighed, leaning onto the dryer with her back to Alex, allowing the heat to travel up her arms and into her chest. “I thought I had it all figured out, you know? Get engaged, get married, all that crap. And now… I just feel like I took the long way around and I’m right back where I started.
With nothing to show for it except battle scars and wounds that only show just how wrong I was to begin with.
How did I let it get this far, Alex? How was I such a complete idiot? Did I know? Did I see this and just ignore it because I didn’t want to see it? I don’t even know anymore…
It’s just like… I’m gonna be twenty-five next year… and what do I have? I have to take time off from a shitty job for personal issues, a bunch of university degrees that don’t quite equal a degree… a failed engagement and…” Sighing she turned around keeping her back against the heat. “Who’s gonna want me when I’m old? Who wants a stupid secretary that can’t hold a man’s interest? Who’s gonna love me?”

“Me.” Alex said simply, holding his hands out at his side, totally vulnerable. “I will.” He took a deep breath, dropping his head and taking a step forward, closing the gap between them.

He wanted to say more, and she wanted to hear more, but they both reacted on instinct. Alex wound his arms around Evan’s waist and she hugged onto his neck, allowing him to easily lift her off the ground and place her on top of the dryer.
She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer to her as their kiss intensified.
Alex’s tongue swept into her mouth, dancing passionately above hers as he moaned against her lips.

His erection was already fully formed, the heat and vibrations of the dryer, humming against him. Evan let go of her hold on him, reaching down to grab at it as Alex undid her bra with a single hand.

Evan pulled him out at the same time that the blue fabric landed on the ground. His large, warm, hands moved around to her front, cupping each breast and rubbing her nipples with the pads of his thumbs.
She sighed against him, moving her lips from his, down to his collar bone, her hands gently squeezing his hard cock.

Between the feel of her teeth, tongue, and lips on his neck, her hands on his dick and the dryer against them both, Alex didn’t have any time for patience. He dropped her breasts and grabbed onto her panties, pulling them out from under her and throwing them behind him.
He grabbed onto the head of his dick and rubbed it against her already, wet, clit. Luckily he didn’t need to stand on his tip-toes to reach her; he was able to push himself in slightly, just from where he was standing.

He didn’t want to hurt her, but he didn’t want to wait, so he opted for option number three. He allowed himself to slid into her hot, slit, a quarter of the way, before pulling out.
He began to pump in quickly, never going further in than he had the first time. With his thumb he traced the outline of her clit, making quick, sturdy circles. Evan leaned back on her hands, allowing a loud moan to escape her mouth as she tilted her head back. “Alex…” She sighed, as her legs began to quiver around him.

Alex pulled back, leaving only his fingers in between her legs as her orgasm ran down in front of him. He watched until it reached the floor before glancing back up to meet her eyes. Evan gave him a breathless grin that he returned earnestly before putting his lips back to hers.
Too many words were running through his head as he held her against his body, but he didn’t bother speaking any of them.

If Alex had his way, then he had a long, long time to say everything to her, that he could ever want to.

HURRAY!

Ok so as far as it goes... my friend Chris was able to save my laptop! Virus begone, and he was able to restore all of my files... minus my Sean Avery story (apparently HP hates him too...)

SO, I'll hopefully have an update up tonight... if not, it's only because it's a very, very long update. Where they're normally 5-6 pages in word perfect... this one will probably be 11 or more... I'm still thinking I should get it done but, just know that they're coming!

Also, not sure if you've ever seen a computer whiz chase down a virus, but I'm 99% sure that Chris is a male Garcia from Criminal Minds... THANK YOU CHRIS!!

Oh no...

Hey guys... I got a HUGE virus on my lap top so... not sure how this is going to work... in all honesty, I've lost a lot of stuff and I might have to delete the rest so... = /

I'm gonna take my laptop in to get cleaned and see how it all works out... wish me luck <3!

26. Fool Me Once

OMG?! An update... earlier then expected... and ON TIME? Yes... yes it is!
Another update with some major help from the wonderful, talented, fantastic Jay! =)

Here We Go Again - Kelly Rowland

It was a little after seven AM, and Evan was grinning from ear to ear as she picked up the two large paper bags from the back of her car. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Jeff, actually, it was for the complete opposite reason that she was here. Maybe she hadn't been really giving him a chance. After all, she'd been wishing he'd pay more attention to her for a while, and now that he was, she was trying to get away from him? It didn't make much sense.

After spending only one night at the Spa, she had decided to come home early, stopping at the grocery store the night before to pick up a few of Jeff’s favourite foods. She’d sneak in while he was still sleeping, cook him up something good, and then spend the rest of the day just being with him, it was the perfect plan.

She knew he‘d still be asleep, so she pulled out her key and unlocked the front door. She closed it behind her and headed into the kitchen, while riffling through one of the bags at the same time.
She kept feeling like she’d forgotten something, but she couldn’t remember what. Evan shrugged it off, figuring that she’d remember it later on.

Carefully, shifting the bags in her arms, she carried them into the kitchen, before dropping them on the marble floor, their contents spilling everywhere. She felt her jaw drop open as her eyes met Jeff’s and he pulled back, his face masking hers.
“I…” Was all he managed to sputter before Evan was gone, running back towards the front door, leaving Jeff and Sarah Hartnell in the kitchen.

Jeff came around the corner, nearly falling on his face as he tried to pull his pants back onto his waist. “Evangeline!” He yelled, chasing her to the front door and then out into the front yard.

She didn’t stop though, as she jumped back into her car. She left him standing there as she peeled down the street and back onto the highway.
Her body was shaking, and she only got fifteen minutes away before she had to pull over, her body consumed with sobs as she dropped her face into her hands.

Finally composing herself enough to think of something other than going back home and cutting off Jeff’s nuts, she reached for her phone.
She dialled in Alex’s number and let it ring, until his voice mail picked up.

Of course, in her frantic, emotional state, she’d completely forgotten that it was seven in the morning, and he‘d still be in bed. She wanted to just wait, just wait until he woke up and called her back, but she couldn’t.
She needed her best friend, and she needed him desperately.

Evan started the long drive, figuring out that Alex would most likely just be getting out of his Saturday morning practice, by the time she got to Pittsburgh.
She knew that she wasn’t in an emotional state to go and see him in front of people, but she really didn’t care. The images of Jeff fucking Sarah on the counter top in her kitchen, was enough to make her see red as she drove the winding highway.

She wasn’t sure what to say to Alex. She wasn’t even sure if she should be going to see him, after all, he was probably sick of her always dropping her problems on him.
Alex never had problems, at least none that he ever bothered Evan with. She was such a horrible friend, and apparently she was a fairly horrible fiancé, if she couldn’t even keep Jeff honest for a full week.

She shook her head as she turned off the exit towards Pittsburgh. She wasn’t sure what she was even trying to accomplish by showing up at Mellon Arena, all she knew was that Alex was there, and she needed him more than anything else at this moment.

Trampled Underfoot - Led Zeppelin

Practice was over, and the entire team skated off the ice and made their way into the dressing room. Their voices echoed and carried in the runway as guys talked about what a hard skate that was, or what their plans for the evening were, or how pumped they were for the next game. Alex was in the back of the group and not really listening. It wasn’t until everyone else stopped talking and turned to look at him with questioning glances that he realized what was going on.

Evan was in their dressing room, standing by the door. He couldn’t quite recognize the emotion on her face. Her cheeks were red, her eyes were wet, and her jaw was clenched.

“Evan?” he asked quietly, stepping past the other guys and approaching her. He certainly wasn’t expecting her to show up here, like this. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?”

Her voice was raw. “I need you right now, Alex.”

“Just let me change, and then I can take you home with me. We’ll stop and get some Grey Goose on the way.” He gave her a weak smile, trying to be comforting. Vodka was Evangeline’s go-to coping mechanism, and he knew that a couple shots of top shelf liquor would calm her nerves.

“No,” she replied, shaking her head and speaking forcefully. “I need you now.”

Alex cast a glance back at the guys, who were all looking around the room but really were staring out of the corners of their eyes at the scene in front of them and wondering about what the hell was going on. He put an arm around her shoulders to protect her from their piercing gazes, as well as to guide her toward the training room where they could have some privacy and he could get to the bottom of this.

He ushered her into the back room, pointing her in the direction of one of the massage tables as he turned and pushed the door shut, a high-pitched click resounding to let him know the door was fully closed.

Before he could turn around and address her, Evan pushed herself into his arms and against Alex’s padded and sweaty body. She took advantage of the way his ears moderately stuck out and grabbed onto them in order to pull his face down to hers, tugging hard enough that he felt a dull pain on the sides of his head. Once their lips met, she released her grasp on his head and moved her hands to the hem of his practice jersey. She pulled upward awkwardly, finding it difficult because of his added height from his skates. She tried her best to get the light blue jersey off him, but the material caught on his pads and she struggled.

Despite her proximity to hockey players, she had never really paid attention to their uniforms and equipment; namely, how much of it he was wearing. “Are you going to help me, or what?”

“Evan...” he started, not knowing what causing this sudden change in his friend. She was usually much more timid. However, she looked so determined as she tried to strip him that he automatically wanted to help and therefore took off his jersey without her having to make a further request.
Her eyes scanned his chest and arms, staring at his shoulder and elbow pads as if they were a puzzle begging to be solved. Her nimble fingers searched for the Velcro, ties, clasps, or whatever it was that held his pads in place and blocked her from touching his bare body like she so desperately needed to.

“Get these damn things off!” she ordered in frustration, unable to figure out how to do it herself.

Alex reacted, doing as she bade and feeling a little turned on by her new-found, take-charge attitude. He started with his elbow pads, discarding them one by one and dropping them to the floor before he untied his shoulder pads and pulled them quickly over his head. He was acting under her direction, and she had complete control. But still, he had to ask, “What’s going on? I thought…”

Evan dragged her nails over his chest, the material of his black Under Armour shirt between her hands and his chest, ignoring his question.
This time, as she reached to strip him of his shirt, she didn’t have any trouble pulling it over his head and throwing it to the floor to join the various other discarded pieces of his uniform. Her hands slid over his warm skin, slick with sweat as she looked up into his dark, chocolate brown eyes and informed him of her plan. “You’re going to fuck me.”

Her words shocked and aroused him. He placed his hands on her sides, trying to hold her at a distance so he could talk to her and find out what was prompting this action, but she wouldn’t let him stop her from carrying out and exacting her own plan. A bead of sweat trailed down his chest, and Evan leaned forward and licked it off him, dragging her tongue up past his collarbone and to his neck as she tasted his salty skin.

Alex groaned, savouring the feel of her rough tongue on his flesh as his burgeoning erection started to press painfully against his cup. He leaned back and rested his head against the door. A million questions were still buzzing around his head, but he didn’t bothering asking another one. Instead, he obeyed orders as Evan added, “Take off your skates and pants.”

He reached down and fumbled with the laces of his skate boots, trying to move quickly so he could kick them off as he moved onto the clasp on his hockey pants. She began to shed her own clothing, first her blouse and then her jeans. Alex dropped his jock and released his now hard dick, not bothering with removing his shin pads or socks. He had removed the bare minimum, and that was good enough for him.

Without so much as a warning, Evangeline jumped onto Alex, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and her legs around his hips. Their mouths attacked one another, a combination of lips, teeth, and tongue crashing together frantically and passionately. He fell back against the door with a thud as her body crashed against his, before he grabbed her waist and held onto her, stumbling across the room and setting her down on the counter.

He kissed her neck, and she moaned loudly. Her hands blindly searched for something solid to hold onto; anything that wasn’t mounted down got knocked off the counter and thrown across the room as she reached and clutched at the things around her. Tubs of ointment and rolls of bandages went flying as Alex’s hands moved to her back and unhooked her bra. His teeth dug into the flesh of her chest as he roughly pinched her nipples and twisted, which in turn garnered a deep, guttural moan from Evan.

The walls of the training room were thin. When guys were getting massages or getting wrapped, either before or after games, muffled voices were distinguishable, even if the actual words weren’t discernable. The guys out in the dressing room tried to ignore the overtly sexual sounds that reverberated through the walls. They could hear Evangeline’s every moan, every squeal of delight, and every command to their team-mate, punctuated by the occasional bang and slam of objects and bodies. The guys heard everything.

“Fuck me, Alex,” she begged, reaching down to pull the crotch of her panties to the side and exposing her pink, wet folds to him. “I want you inside of me.”

He groaned at her request, wondering where this sex kitten came from. Not that he was complaining; he would gladly oblige her every whim and do whatever she asked. Alex grabbed his erection and rubbed the tip against her pussy lips and clit. She moaned again, clutching the ledge of the counter and perching herself at the edge as he entered her, just like she had asked.

She squeaked and gasped, in pain and in pleasure, as their bodies began to join as one. “Oh my God. Ow. Stop for a second.” She arched her back and spread her legs farther apart, trying to open herself up in order to accommodate his size.

“Are you all right?” It seemed he always had to ask her that question. With other girls, he wasn’t always so considerate, but he never wanted to hurt his Evan.

“You’re just so fucking big. Go slow,” Evangeline groaned, continuing to whimper as he finally came to a halt and filled her completely. Even though it was uncomfortable, it was the best kind of uncomfortable possible.

Alex took his time as he moved inside her, pulling out just a little before he slowly pushed back in with subtle, deft motions of his hips. As he pumped his hard dick inside of her, he wrapped a hand around her blonde hair and brought his mouth down on hers, swirling his tongue around hers and then sucking her tongue into his mouth.

Evan shifted her body, trying to facilitate deeper thrusts. He placed her hands at her hips, preventing her from accelerating her pleasure. “I thought you said ‘slow’?” he chuckled in her ear, loving the way he had gained an ounce of control in this situation.

“I did. Now I want it hard and fast.”

Pulling out fully and hoisting her off the counter, he turned and dropped Evan onto one of the massage tables. She grabbed onto the sides as Alex brought her ass to the very end of the table and then spread her legs apart as far as they would go. He slammed his cock into her and she screamed, but not in pain - she screamed because it felt so damn good.

As far as she was concerned, Evan was speaking in tongues; she was trying to encourage him and tell him just how much she was enjoying this, but her words came out instead, as incoherent syllables and loud sighs. But if she were speaking in another language, then Alex was fluent in it, too. He knew just how much pleasure she was deriving from their lewd, public act in the training room.

She pushed herself up, so she was resting on her elbows, gyrating her pelvis synchronously with his. Knowing she was reaching her peak, he tried to ride it out as her body began to tense around his. Her muscles were clamping down around his dick as she neared her climax, and he closed his eyes so he wouldn’t have to watch the way her body was moving. But that didn’t work, because he could still picture it in his mind’s eye, so he looked off to his right at the Pens poster on the wall, reading Passion, Work Ethic, Accountability. He focused on those words as Evangeline shrieked one last time and plunged off the cliff and lost herself in total oblivion, yelling and announcing repeatedly that she was coming.

When she came to and regained consciousness after her brush with the sublime, she decided to repay the favour. A smile broke out across her face as she leaned forward and pushed against his chest, forcing him away from her. Alex gave her a confused look, because it was obvious to the both of them that he hadn’t finished.

She slid off the table and dropped to her knees, looking into his eyes as she took him into his mouth. Rather, she took as much of Alex in her mouth as she could. She bobbed her head as her hand simultaneously ran along the length of his dick, gently squeezing, and not minding at all that she could taste her own wetness on him.

After a few more moments of allowing Evan to suck and lick at her own pace, he grabbed the back of her head and fucked her mouth until he groaned and spewed forth his pent-up frustration into her gaping mouth, and she swallowed it all.

Alex found a clean towel and wrapped it around himself as Evan dressed back into her clothes. When they had thrown caution to the wind and gone at it like rabbits, neither of them thought about the possible show his team-mates would be privy to, but he was sure that the guys would have all showered and left by now, so that the coast would be clear to avoid any possible embarrassment for Evangeline. He’d hear about it later, he knew, but he wanted to spare that for her.
However, when he cracked open the door, he was met by a roomful of cheeky smiles and raucous applause.

25. Burning Bridges

Ok, I'm not happy with this update but... I don't want to sit on it anymore! I'm really sorry that I missed the last couple days with updates... and you should probably know... I might miss the next couple days too.
Monday should be the start of regular updates until the end so... bear with me!

(I also didn't proof it... AGAIN, sorry)

Cheers!

Burning Bridges - Jason Mraz

It had been two weeks since Alex had held Evan in his arms, beneath the gentle spray of her bathroom shower.
It wasn’t that he hadn’t seen her, or talked to her since then, but now, he was completely heartbroken.

He had been honest with himself, when he said he wasn’t expecting her to just take off with him, but never did he think that she’d take him back. Never.
No, that wasn’t entirely true, he just really didn’t want her to.

Alex kept going over the day he’d left her there, wondering what he could have done differently, if anything, to make her see.
She knew him so well, knew everything, every aspect, did he really have to be so damn upfront about what he wanted? The answer stood, apparently. Or, she just didn’t want to be with him like that.
After all, she was in need of someone to make her feel better, maybe the sex had just been sex for her.

If there was anything Alex was sure of now, it was how Evan had felt when she’d pulled open that bathroom door and found Sarah Hartnell. He felt the heartache, as real, as if he’d been cheated on.
When he’d called Evan that night and she’d answered the phone, she hadn’t hesitated to tell Alex what was going on. He was glad at least, that Jeff had apologise, Evan deserved that much; he wasn’t however happy to hear that she was taking him back.

It wasn’t that people didn’t deserve second chances, even jerks like Jeff, it was just that Evan deserved someone who wouldn’t falter.
She was entitled to a man that would always put her first and never fail in his resolve to love her, and only her. In fact, the more Alex tried to imagine all the things he would want in a man for her, the more he realized that he was only capable of imagining himself in the role.

Alex sighed, and shook his head, trying to remove the image from his head, he couldn’t allow that, not now. Probably not ever.
“Alex!” He turned around at the sound of his voice, so caught up in his own internal monologue, he didn’t even realize where he was.

“Oh… sorry…” He smiled, slightly embarrassed as he doubled back, past a small wrought iron gate that led to a brick stoop, where Amelia and a few friends waited. “Hey, I’m Alex…” He said, extending his hand to the two girls that were flanking her.

“Katharine.” The blond one said, smiling at him before giving Amelia a knowing look, out of the corner of her eye.

The brunette one grinned at him and took his hand next. “Jennie. It’s nice to finally meet you.” Alex nodded in response, reaching out to open the door and extending his hand towards the restaurant in an ’after you’ manner.
He followed the three friends into the upper scale eatery, flagging down a waitress, before heading up to a secluded table.

They talked pleasantries for a while, Alex trying to be as friendly as possible, without having to put too much into the conversation; he was still consumed by thoughts of Evan.
Amelia wasn’t fooled. “You know you need?” She asked coyly, once their food was consumed.

“What’s that now?” Alex asked, smirking. He could only imagine what Amelia would have in mind.

She sat back in her seat, glancing between Katharine and Jennie before turning her gaze back to Alex. “You need to have some fun… loosen up. What do you say to a game of hockey… my friends, versus your friends?”

“You do realize that when it comes to Pittsburgh, ’my friends’ only really includes NHL players?” He quipped, handing his credit card off to the waitress when she came back.

Jennie shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips when she spoke next. “You afraid of us little girls?” She leaned towards Amelia, gently hitting her with her elbow. “I think he knows that we’ll kick his ass.”

“Oh! You think so do you?” Alex laughed, grabbing into his coat pocket and pulling out his cell phone.

“Ok so wait… fuck. What are we suppose to do now?” Max complained as he tied on his skates, watching the girls goof around on the frozen pond.
When Alex had called him, Jordan, TK, Flower and Tanger out for a game of shimmy, they’d all assumed that he was referring to playing with a few male friends, not a college team, of women no less. “If we win… we look like dicks, and they’re not gonna put out. If we lose, we look like idiots, and they’re gonna put out. Either way we’re burning bridges here Gogo…”

Alex could only laugh as the he headed towards the ice, leaving a complaining Max sitting in the back of his SUV.
He heard the crisp, snap, of the ice beneath him as he connected with it. Stretching out his legs as he propelled himself into the middle of the ice. It felt nice, to be out there, freeing.
It’d been years since he skated on pond ice, and years since he’d actually played a game, for nothing more, than to just play the game. “Hey hot shot, you gonna be ok?” Amelia asked as she skated by him, concern in her eyes.
He nodded, trying to hide any trepidation in his eyes. Amelia let out a loud sigh and slid around in front of him, causing him to stop. “Alex, you know I think she’s a nice girl… but you have to let her go. It’s over. You tried, you really did, but some things just aren’t meant to work out…”

It sounded like another person talking about that stupid word again, fate. Fate. Who did fate think he was, anyway? Really, hadn’t Alex done everything right?
Had he really ever done anything in his life so horrible that he deserved to be stuck in limbo like this?
Maybe it was like what Max had just said. Whether you win or lose, you’re always burning a bridge.
He could win the battle, but maybe he wasn’t meant to win the war.

I Want You To - Weezer

“Ok so how does this work… you guys want a couple free shots… or what?” MAx quipped skating between the girls as he came to a stop, somewhere in the middle of the ice.

Amelia snorted, heading towards him. “Well, how about we just see how it goes, stud.” She smirked, coming to a stop in front of him and setting her blade on the ice. “Let’s get it on.”

Max let out a whistle and looked over at Jordan, giving him a wink. Suddenly, his prospects for the night were looking up. Or so he though.
Max gave Amelia the first puck drop, not even bothering to attempt and win the face off. He watched her take off across the ice, and move to go after her.

The guys were laughing, until Katharine scored. “Whoa, Flower… I mean, I’m all for making them feel good but, don’t let them score.” TK groaned as he skated behind the net, shaking his head.

Flower nodded. “Yah… don’t let them score anymore… oui…” He said slowly, hoping the guys didn’t realize that he didn’t let them do anything. Alex started to laugh, loudly, recognizing the look on Marc’s face, before skating back out to the center ice.

“So… can you guys do spins and stuff like that… dancing and what not?” TK asked as he came to a halt by Jennie. “Like for practice and stuff?”

“Yah.. Instead of practicing hockey, we practice ice dancing.” Jennie quipped, rolling here eyes as she let out a quiet giggle.

“You mean figure skating?” TK corrected, watching her take her place across from him.

She shook her head. “No… ice dancing… it‘s a sport.”

Jordan snorted, looking thoroughly perplexed as he came to a stop by everyone else. “And just when I thought they couldn’t out-queer figuring skating… here comes ice dancing!”

The game resumed, this time the guys put more effort into it, finishing with an 8-2 lead over the girls.
Once everyone decided that they were done for the evening, Max suggested they all go out and grab some food. “Unless of course… you wanna try some grade A, Canadian beef.”

Rolling her eyes Amelia turned around in the front seat of Alex’s car, to speak to Max directly. “You don’t have an off switch for that big mouth, do you?”

Max shook his head. “Non, I just keep going… and going… and going…”

“Hmm… that’s just too bad then. You know what they say about men with big mouths, don’t you…?” Amelia grinned, leaning further towards Max, until her cleavage was no longer ignorable, and a seductive pout was on her face. “… they’re tiny everywhere else.”

“OH SNAP!” Jordan yelled as TK and Katharine started to laugh. Max sat back in his seat, looking slightly annoyed and amused at the same time. Trying to maintain some kind of dignity, he turned and glanced out the window as Alex headed into town.

Alex felt fairly out of place as his loud female friend and her team, laughed along with his louder team-mates. He tried to blend into the wall, thankful, for once, that no one was paying attention to him at all.
It wasn’t that he wanted to be anti-social or a stick-in-the-mud, he just didn’t want to have to pretend that he was in a good mood. Cause he wasn’t.

“God, eat all the asparagus and you’re gonna be on the man-hunt tonight.” Jennie laughed as she watched Amelia chow down on some deep fried veggies.

“Sorry… but how does asparagus have anything to do with hooking-up?” Max asked sceptically as Alex continued to ignore the conversation around him. He wanted to help his friend out, he knew Alex was heartbroken and that he should be trying to help him move on… but he was fairly fascinated by Alex’s, friend to pay attention.

“What? You never heard of an aphrodisiacs? Big player like you don’t use them?“ Amelia cut in, laughing as she pulled another piece into her mouth.

Max snorted. “Please, I am an aphrodisiac.”

Jennie held up her hands laughing. “Wait, no oysters, chocolate, strawberries, green m&ms… nothing?”

Shrugging Max looked over at the guys, they all looked just as confused as him. “Why? You mean to tell me that shit actually works?” Amelia nodded, staring at Max condescendingly.
He glanced down at the table and lifted up the empty pretzel bowl, moving to pass it to Amelia, as Alex‘s phone began to vibrate.
Alex got up and left the table in a hurry, as Max stared at Amelia, waiting.

“And what do I do with this?” She asked sceptically, holding the empty bowl in her hand.

“It’s pretzel salt…” He replied, matter-of-factly, “ya lubed up yet?”

Alex headed towards the bathroom hallway, as the laughter of his friends faded behind him. “Evan?”

“Hey Alex! What’s up?” Her cheery voice asked softly. Alex smiled as soon as the familiar sound filled his ear.

“Just out eating with the guys, Amelia, and some of her friends… what about you?”

Evan glanced around her room as she put her free hand on her hip. The room was slightly chaotic as she tried to pack up, last minute. “Well I’m actually just letting you know that I’m going away for the weekend, in case you were looking for me or whatever.
I decided to take a last-minute trip to the Sewickley Spa… you know… just to get a break from the wedding planning and all that junk.”

Alex nodded. “Right… well… give me a call when you get back, you’ll have to come visit soon.”

Evan nodded too, as she shoved more things into her bag. “Sounds good Alex, I’ll see you when I get back.” They said their goodbyes and she hung up, glancing behind her to see Jeff coming into the room.

“Do you have to leave tomorrow? I don’t take off till Sunday babe, I’m gonna miss you… this has been nice… I mean, all this time together.” He said, pulling her against his chest as he bent down to gently kiss the tip of her nose.

Evan smiled and kissed him back, her lips gently brushing against his. “I’ll be back in time to see you off, it’s not that long…” She smirked, still not use to her fiancé’s new found free time.
She was glad to be spending time with him, reconnecting with him, but at the same time she missed all the time she use to spend with Alex in his wake.
Oh well, she supposed that was just the way the world worked. You couldn’t have it both ways, and which ever way you went, you were always burning a bridge behind you.
